lovely yarn

I thought it would be fun to share a little post on what I learned recently about such lovely yarn. I am new to crocheting and have been told that when you buy yarn in hanks, you should always roll the yarn into a ball before starting your project. Well, I was so eager to start my project with this new yarn, that I didn't think it would be that big of a deal if I didn't roll it into a ball.

And this is what happened to the oh, so lovely yarn.

I know what your thinking, I should have listened to the advice, but I was too impatient. :)  I tried to get all the knots out and it just got worse. I had purchased quite a few of these hanks, and knew that my husband would not volunteer his arms for every hank, in attempt to roll it myself.

So, I purchased these lovelies. A yarn swift and winder.

I have been having a lot of fun winding all of my yarn hanks into beautiful balls that end up like this.

If you have a story such as mine, please do share, so I don't feel like I am the only one who has done this. :) Happy yarn winding and crocheting!

  2. I just found your blog (from Cozy Little House), and will obviously be spending a lot of time going through all your old posts! The vintage embroideries first caught my eye (LOVE the little critter quilt!) and then your thread mess, lol. I rarely roll mine first, and haven't had too much trouble. But .... one day I had my bag of thread/yarn - about 12 different ones, sitting by my spot on the couch ... I went out for a little while and left my devil dogs home with the doors open. WHen I came home, there was thread everywhere in my living room - wound around all of the chairs, tables, sofa. OMG I didn't know whether to laugh, cry, kill them, or rename them cats (for playing with string lol). In the end, I learned my lesson, threw away the thread and never leave it out for them again. I look forward to seeing more of your beautiful work - hope you have a wonderful weekend!
