On Saturday, I went to an estate sale that was in a beautiful 1920's Spanish style home, and had the same owners for 50 years! I had a women's tea with my mother-in-law that morning, so I was unable to go right when it opened. But, I was still very lucky with my finds later in the day. This gorgeous needlepoint was on a bookshelf, covered in dust, and just waiting to go home with me!! ;)
I love the pretty colors and the green vines that wrap around the beautiful words,, "I KNOW THAT MY REDEEMER LIVETH".
Here is a close up. Isn't it so amazing!! It adds such a special touch to my home!!
I loved that the owners of this put a little typed tag where and when they bought it. So, I am wondering if they bought it in 1968 from an antique shoppe, then I wonder how old this piece is. Maybe early 1900's? I tried looking into it, but couldn't find too much. I will keep researching! Let me know what you think!
This was another beautiful needlepoint that I bought. I love the pretty roses, and it is such a sweet size!! I could even imagine painting the frame a shabby white or black?
There was no tag on the back, so maybe the sweet lady who owned this, made it!
I have some other goodies I will show you tomorrow, along with my grannies!!
Happy a lovely Monday!!
Lovely Heather, I have a few that I made that need framing. Maybe in years to come someone will be blogging about mine!! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you!! Oh, would love to see them!! You never know!! ;) xo Heather
DeleteFabulous finds! Love the needlepoint religious verse - such amazing thread colours. Great to have the little note on the back too - makes it more interesting.

DeleteOh yes, Heather, you have a very nice antique there! That is a Victorian paper punch motto sampler. I would say it is from the latter 1800's. A wooden back board would be typical of these pieces. They bought it as an antique in '68! Enjoy your day! Twyla
ReplyDeleteThank you for such great history on this!! I knew that it had to be old, just knowing it was at an antique shoppe when they bought it in 68'. How exciting if it is from the late 1800's!! It would be a great find for only $5!! Have a lovely night!! xo Heather
DeleteOh! What amazing treasures! I would have snatched them up, too.

DeleteBeautiful treasure.
ReplyDeleteI think that the first needlepoint picture is much older than 1968.
The frame looks like it's from the 30's or 40's to me.
Perhaps there is an antique store in your town that can give you a little appraisal on it.
No matter what.. it went to a good home where you will love it and cherish it :)
Warm wishes..
Kerin
