a patchwork blanket

The patchwork blanket is finished! My hands were so numb last night, as I finished the edging. I love all the pretty colors and how cozy it is!
The pattern was from the talented Dottie Angel and it is called the 'Ordinarily Extraordinary' blanket. I was going to put vintage doilies as she did, but then I decided not to, Maybe later.
I also was planning a scalloped edging because I never can get enough of those pretty scallops, but I thought I should try something new. So, after looking through my crochet books I decided on a picot edging. I really loved doing this edging. It was easy and came out so pretty.
I enjoy quilting, but have really come to love crocheting blankets. I think I love the fact that you can do it anywhere and they are so warm and cozy. We had a couple of days where it was cold, but then yesterday it was in the 80's again.
I already have the next blanket planned. A pretty ripple blanket! I can't wait to get started on it. Are you crocheting, knitting, or quilting anything sweet?
I get distracted very easily, and on Saturday as I was working on the blanket and being inspired online, I came across this beautiful crocheted cowl pattern called Dentelle Cowl from the pretty blog Shara Lambeth Designs.
I love wearing cowls, and have been wanting to make one. I was excited about this one because it had sweet scallops. So, I grabbed some pretty red wool yarn and crocheted away. It came out to be so pretty!
I am looking forward to wearing it, once the weather cools down again!
Some pretty new fabrics arrived in the mail on Friday. I have been wanting last three cute chick fabrics for awhile, so I am happy to get some to play with!
Pretty vintage calicos that I have already starting cutting into to create some pretties which I will show you later in the week.
And, I never can seem to get enough of gorgeous vintage feed sacks. These were all from the sweetest Donna of Donna's Lavender Nest. She is having a most lovely giveaway right of some gorgeous fabrics, and her cute quilt pattern, so make sure you head over to her blog!
Wishing you all a beautiful and creative week!

Very nice fabrics...some of the calicos look familiar..I'm wondering if I might have had some of those many moons ago.

I think I will head over to see Donna's place to see what she has going on.

    Have a sweet week. xo

  7. Oh, my! You crochet blanket and cowl came out so nice! You make me feel so embarrassed that I need to get out my 100 block quilt and maybe try to finish it! I haven't had it out since last Spring! I am finishing up a little fall scarf for my daughter. Maybe I could use an edge similar to yours? Hmm.. Also would you mind telling me your source for the chick fabric? I love it!!

    1. Thank you so much Susie!! Oh, well if you only knew how many projects I have started and need to finish. ;) The picot edging would be so cute on a scarf! Can't wait to see it!

You can get the first two chick fabrics here at Fort Worth Fabrics: http://www.fortworthfabricstudio.com/cgi-bin/Store/store.cgi?cart_id=3025980.12702.s0&lastmenu=&product=windham_once_upon_storybook

The last chick was a Japanese fabric that is out of print, and I happened to stumble across some on Etsy.
Hope you are having a great day! xo Heather

  20. Love the colors and the picot edging on your afghan. I will have to teach myself more edges each time I make another one. I haven't started yet, but I'm planning a baby afghan for my niece, who is due in Jan. That should help keep me warm through some of the colder months.
