vintage recipe and christmas treasures

Happy Monday! Hope your weekend was lovely! 

If you missed last Monday's recipe, I will be sharing a vintage recipe each Monday with you as the holidays are approaching. The vintage recipe today is for an Apple Brown Betty. Yummy! A perfect fall dessert and very simple to make! I could eat some right now with a cup of tea! If you get a chance to make it, let me know how you liked it!

Today was a lucky day at a couple thrift stores with some sweet Christmas treasures. These adorable snowmen and Santa felt ornaments are the cutest! I am not sure how old they are and they look handmade, but are labeled "made in Japan". Any ideas? 

These two were in a huge pile of Christmas ornaments, and I thought they were so fun! Love the plastic edging!

 And, when I saw this box of Shiny Brites, with all the ornaments scattered, I was so excited!

 Another full box Shiny Brites and Holly ornaments! My collection is finally growing, but now I need to find a larger tinsel tree to put them all on! ;)

Thank you all so much for your sweet and encouraging comments on my vintage deer pillow! They truly made my day and mean so much to me! I will be working on a little tutorial on how to make the top cover of the pillow, and will be posting it next week! The last few days I  have been busy sewing away and putting the final touches on these sweet new items!!

a vintage deer pillow

Over the last weekend, I was inspired by a kitschy deer pillow in a magazine and really wanted to create my own version of it. The most lovely Keren of Free Pretty Things For You has the sweetest vintage graphics, and I knew that her adorable vintage 'Oh Deer' image from her etsy shoppe would be perfect for the pillow. 

 I just adore how it came out! I used one of my favorite vintagey floral and pin dot fabrics, that I have been wanting to use in a pillow for awhile.

I adorned it with a vintage white doily, and crocheted a most lovely red scalloped edge. I can never get enough of those scallops!! ;) 

The deer has such a precious face, and makes this such a sweet pillow.

 It was a fun and easy process, and maybe I can do a little tutorial if you are interested. I already have some other projects in mind using sweet Keren's adorable vintage graphics! 

 Well, know I need to get back to my project list, and enjoying this beautiful, autumn weather! I am hoping to be adding some new items in my shoppe next week. And there is still time to get 15% off your order for the 'autumn sale'.

vintage recipe and a walk in the woods

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a lovely weekend! Thank you for all your sweet comments on my granny square quilt, and my pretty vintage piece, which now has a name (a book seat) thanks to all of you!! 

Since the holidays are coming upon us, I thought it would be fun to share a vintage recipe each Monday with you. This one is called "Cowboy Cake", and it looks simple, but sweet! Let me know if you try it, and how you like it!

Yesterday, I was able to make a quilt that has been on my project list using A Walk in the Woods charm pack. It is a baby or small lap size quilt, and it is my first tied quilt. I so happy with how it came out, especially with the cute red ties! 

I used 6 strands of red embroidery floss, and tied in all the corners. It was a fun process, and I can't wait to make another one!

For the backing I used four large strips of these two adorable prints. One thing that I love about Aneela Hoey's fabrics are how there is always a pretty grey line!! My favorite! ;)

 Another cute and comfy quilt to add to my growing collection. Quilt making is quite addicting, isn't it? Would love to know if you have you ever tied a quilt before?

a granny quilt and vintage goodness

 My granny square quilt is finally finished! Yay! This quilt top had been sitting for awhile to get quilted, so yesterday I worked hard to get it done. I have another quilt that I planned and started last year, that I really want to work on, so I thought I better get this one finished first.

I already washed and dried it to give it that crinkly goodness that I love. 

I adore all the pretty colors, and prints together. I did a simple straight stitch around the squares. 

 I used a vintage yellow wreath rose sheet for the backing. I had a some trouble with the sheet puckering, even though I taped it taught to the floor and pinned like crazy when I basted it.

This is only my 4th quilt that I have done, so I know that I am in need of practice. Would love to hear if you have used a vintage sheet for a quilt and if you had any problems or have a secret tip when quilting with one! 

For the binding I chose a pretty aqua calico, which came out so sweetly.

So, a lovely quilt for those cold fall and winter days, which I know or at least hope are coming! ;)

 This beautiful vintage piece was one of my first treasures. I am still not really sure what it was used for, or the proper name for it. 

 The detail is beautiful, with all of it's curved lines, and twisty poles on the bottom.

 The top is a velvety tan with a sweet ribbon around the edge. 

This is one piece that I love, and would never do anything to change it. I store quilts in the bottom part, and have a bucket of yarn goodness that sits on top. Do you know what it is or what it was originally used for?

a patchwork blanket

 The patchwork blanket is finished! My hands were so numb last night, as I finished the edging. I love all the pretty colors and how cozy it is! 

The pattern was from the talented Dottie Angel and it is called the 'Ordinarily Extraordinary' blanket. I was going to put vintage doilies as she did, but then I decided not to, Maybe later. 

I also was planning a scalloped edging because I never can get enough of those pretty scallops, but I thought I should try something new. So, after looking through my crochet books I decided on a picot edging. I really loved doing this edging. It was easy and came out so pretty.

I enjoy quilting, but have really come to love crocheting blankets. I think I love the fact that you can do it anywhere and they are so warm and cozy. We had a couple of days where it was cold, but then yesterday it was in the 80's again.

I already have the next blanket planned. A pretty ripple blanket! I can't wait to get started on it. Are you crocheting, knitting, or quilting anything sweet?

 I get distracted very easily, and on Saturday as I was working on the blanket and being inspired online, I came across this beautiful crocheted cowl pattern called Dentelle Cowl from the pretty blog Shara Lambeth Designs.

I love wearing cowls, and have been wanting to make one. I was excited about this one because it had sweet scallops. So, I grabbed some pretty red wool yarn and crocheted away. It came out to be so pretty!

 I am looking forward to wearing it, once the weather cools down again!

 Some pretty new fabrics arrived in the mail on Friday. I have been wanting last three cute chick fabrics for awhile, so I am happy to get some to play with!

 Pretty vintage calicos that I have already starting cutting into to create some pretties which I will show you later in the week.
