Happy Wednesday!
Thank you so much for all your sweet birthday wishes! They made my birthday extra special and I am so thankful for each of you! If you haven't entered my birthday giveaway, there is still time. I will be announcing the winner on Monday!
Over the weekend I went to the local monthly flea market, and came home with some cute treasures. This vintage rocker was sitting there with a price tag of $18, and as I stared at it, looked underneath, and just thought, should I take home another chair, the man who was selling came over, and said that he would give it to me for $10. Well, with that price it was coming home!
It is small, so I am thinking it is a children's rocking chair, but I am not really sure. I love the detail in the wood, and I am already thinking of what color to paint it. ;)
The seat is in need of prettiness, but I love the buttons securing the fabric. I will definitely be cleaning those up, and re-using them when I recover it. Another project on the list! ;) I still need to take some pictures of my other treasures to show you on Friday.
Last year when I was learning how to quilt, I made this sweet fall patchwork and appliqué table runner with some of my favorite fall fabrics. I love quilting, especially on the smaller scale.
There is something about patchwork, that I just love!
I added some pretty appliqué maple leaves, and stamped fall words around them.
Fall is in the air, or at least I am forcing it to be in my home! Have you started decorating?
I have been busy working away on the items for the boutique, which is coming so quickly! Some cross-stitch phrases ready to be put into a quilt, and the vintage grey one is going to be part of my display.
Some tea towels getting there scalloped edging, and...
the next batch waiting for theirs. I have one more batch of tea towels after these to crochet edgings on, and then they all can be adorned with a dresden flower and vintage doilies. I am a little overwhelmed, but I know it will all get done! So, I am off to work away!
Wishing you all a lovely day!
What a beautiful old rocker and happy belated birthday wishes - so sorry I missed it...I hope you had a fabulous time.

DeleteSuch a cute and sweet rocker! I can't wait to see it redone! Did you get your paint colors that you ordered in yet!? I'm excited to see what colors you will do!! :) Such a sweet patchwork runner, I love it! I've started fall decorating a little bit, I think i'm going to pull a couple of my totes down and finish the rest of the house! :) Hope you have a lovely day and Happy working! :):) xo Holly
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am still waiting for the Milk Paint to come arrive in the store. The furniture I was going to paint for my show, probably won't get done by then, but that is okay. Thank you, I love fall! Can't wait to see your decorations! ;) Have a great day! xo Heather
Deletethat rocker looks so much like the rocker my sis inherited via grandma stella. except no cusion. Mary refinished it for grandma and after her passing Mary got to have it for her own. It is in her living room as we speak.
ReplyDeletehave a great week!
Oh, how neat! Mary will have to show it off!! ;) Have a great week, too! xo Heather
DeleteI love rocking chairs!! My godmother has one that was from her mum and I just love sitting on it when I am there visiting her.
ReplyDeleteYour makes are just so amazing and the fall quilt is really sweet!
xx
I have always wanted a rocker, because they are so fun to sit on, and just rock away! I am sure your godmother's is beautiful!! Thank you! Have a great day! xo Heather
DeleteHappy belated birthday :) Love the runner, so pretty can't believe you were new to quilting! The lil x stitches are so cute. x
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Cheryl!! xo Heather
DeleteWhat a great rocker!! can't wait to see how you "fix it up". Love your Fall runner, it looks great on your table!!
ReplyDeleteI guess I missed you b-day on Monday :( so sorry, I consider you one of my best blogging buddies!!!
Hugs chris
Thank you Chris! That's okay. I consider you to be one of my best blogging buddies, too! Hope you have a great day!! xo Heather
DeleteYour towels are looking beautiful. The care you take with the crochet edges really make them stand out from the crowd!
ReplyDeleteThat chair was a great score! Is it small overall or just low to the ground? They used to make "ladies" chairs that were lower for the shorter legs and they also used to make what were called "slipper chairs" that were really low so it was easier to take your shoes on and off. Imagine when you had two rows of shoe buttons to hook or unhook!
Thank you Kathy! Well, it is just low to the ground, because the seat is normal size. Oh, I love that they made these tow types of chairs! Thanks for sharing! It makes this sweet chair even more special! xo Heather
DeleteOh this chair is the perfect size for my one bathroom. I have been searching and searching, it needs to be not too big and not too small, perhaps I will get a lucky find as well. I love your table quilt.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find one just as sweet!! Thank you! xo Heather
DeleteI love the shape of your rocking chair, it looks very elegant! I'd paint it the Swedish Blue I'm using at the moment......then make a cover with my little pile of hexies! Then I would have to casually drape one of your beautiful creatings over the back! I could gentally rock away as I stitch my patchwork blanket! Ada :)
ReplyDeleteOh, that sounds wonderful!!! Love the hexes!! Might have to do that! ;) You are so sweet, thank you!! I am looking forward to rocking away in it! xo Heather
DeleteI love the dear little rocker...but my pioneer side says not to cover the lovely wood with stain. A pretty fabric on the seat would be all I would do...but...I am not young and hip! lol! I have seen a lot of pretty repurposing going on with chalk paint. What ever you choose, you will love it...and so will we. =D
ReplyDeleteThank you! Some old furniture I don't paint because I love the color of the wood, so we'll see what I do with this one! I really want to get some of the chalk paint, and the new milk paint. I am waiting for a local store to get it in! Have a great day! xo Heather
Deletelove the rocker! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!! xo Heather
Deleteaw, what a birthday bargain! I cant wait to see you work your magic on it! xxx

ReplyDeleteAs soon as you are finished with it, it will be worth a whole lot more than you paid for it!
Don't let the junk man see it.. he'll want it back **grin*.
Thank you! Oh, I won't! Ha! ;) xo Heather

ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! Happy sweet day to you! xo Heather
DeleteAh, happy birthday! You got that rocker for an amazing price! It looks like a little sewing rocker. If you take the cover off, do you know if the seat had previously been caned? We have a rocker like that with a caned seat. There are little holes all around the perimeter where the caning goes through. Beautiful little rocker you found! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I'm not sure...but once I recover it I'll have to see! There is weaving of big burlap pieces underneath, but I look to see if there are the holes for the smaller weaving. I am so glad it came home! Happy day to you! xo Heather
DeleteEvery time I see your crocheted scalloped edges, I can't get over that you make them yourself! So many people would BUY it, and add it to their towels...but not you! What talent! I can't wait to see your finished rocker. It's very sweet.
ReplyDeleteErica :)
Aaah, thank you so much Erica! I pretty sure I have become addicted to crocheting scalloped edges, I love doing it! Thank you, I am so happy it came home with me! xo Heather

That rocking chair is a great find at $10 -- I know you will spruce it up in no time. Hope you have a fabulous weekend. ReplyDeleteGorgeous table runner Heather. The rocking chair will be stunning!
ReplyDeleteI should say.. you are very busy! Love that little rocker! It is a ladies rocker probably, they made them smaller. But hard to tell by the picture how small it is. I am sure you will make it beautiful with all your creative talent and genius going on over there! You just started quilting? I would love to try to learn, but I am always chicken? I like the idea of starting of with a table runner. Yours is darling.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Susie
Your rocker is so sweet...What a wonderful find! I wonder if rockets were once a bit smaller than they are today. All the photos of my petite GGGrandmother are of her sitting in the tiniest rocker. Just a thought??
ReplyDeleteYou are such a busy gal with your cross stitching and crocheting. God has truly blessed the work of your hands!
Hugs,
Carolynn
