Happy Monday! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
I adore vintage typewriters, and this Royal beauty is such a piece of history and just pure prettiness. I found this charming typewriter at an estate sale, and fell in love.
It is from the 1920-30's from the Royal Typewriter Co.;N.Y., U.S.A, and is really heavy. All the keys are there, but some are a little rusty and stick together when you type. It was originally purchased at a local typewriter store, which unfortunately is no longer there.
It has beautiful glass on both sides, which is so neat, and just adds lovely character. I am hoping to find someone who can adjust or fix it to type better, so that I can use it more. I have always wanted a typewriter, and might have to look into collecting a few more. :)
I purchased some Dennison gummed labels to type little messages on...
And here is my first one! It makes me nervous to use the labels because the keys stick, and I don't want to waste them, but it is so fun to type! Do you have an old typewriter you treasure?
I have been busy crocheting the last of my granny squares, and working on some grey ones for a new project. The single colored grannies go so much quicker!! I see another blanket in the future.
Wishing you all a lovely and beautiful week!
Heather , that typewriter is awesome! I love it. I do have a vintage childs typewriter that is red. It does type and was made for Marshall Fields store in Chicago(I grew up there and my Mom worked at Marshall Fields).Your granny squares are looking good!
ReplyDeleteThank you Leslie! Oh, your red typewriter sounds so pretty! What a neat story! Such a treasure to have, and that it works!! xo Heather
DeleteI used to type on a typewriter just like that one as a young child. It was my grandmothers and was very heavy.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could use some sewing machine oil to help the keys not stick until you find someone to work on it professionally. xo
Thanks, I will definitely look into machine oil. Sometimes they stick, and then they don't. It could be the age, though. Have a great day! xo Heather
DeleteHi Heather!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! Love that old typewriter!!
I used to have an old, old typewriter... sometime ago, during a move it disappeared.
Hope you are able to find someone to work on it.. maybe there is something on you-tube that will help you out for now.
Smiles :)
Kerin
Hi Kerin!! Thank you! Oh, sorry it disappeared. Maybe you will find it hidden away! Have a great day! xo Heather
DeleteI love your vintage typewriter. I have never seen one with glass on the sides. It's in beautiful condition.
ReplyDeletexo,
Danielle
Thank you Danielle!! xo Heather
DeleteWhat a wonderful find! I have been wanting an old typewriter, too. I hadn't bothered looking because I figured there wouldn't be ribbon and ink, but someone told me that you can actually find those things! I'm going to search Craig's List. Aren't those old machines terrific! I even loved the IBM Selectric with that cool little ball with all the letters on it. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks!! Oh, can't wait to see if you find one!! They are such fun to use! xo Heather
DeleteI have my dad's old Corona... it was a very expensive (at the time), high school graduation present from his family. In 1930 he took it with him to Creighton and then to Santa Clara. Yours is very special with the glass on the sides
ReplyDeletechris
Oh, what a special typewriter to have Chris! Love the story of your Father having it!! Priceless!! :) xo Heather
DeleteI found an old typewriter at the thrift store on fifty percent off day with my mom (senior discount). Spent three whole dollars for it. Not near as beautifully keyed as yours but heavy as the day is long. I miss the sound and the zoom of the space bar. My kids love to clink it too. Beautiful..smiles...Renee
ReplyDeleteThanks!! Yours sounds just as lovely, and they are just so fun to type on! I always imagine women typing away at work on this and how tired their hands would've been. :) xo Heather
DeleteIt is a royal beauty. I do not have a typewriter, and I sure do miss the clickety-clack of the keys.
ReplyDeleteThank you Amy!! It is such a great sound! ;) xo Heather
DeleteHeather what a great find. That is a really neat type writer. Oh boy can you imagine the person that used that beauty. Very strong fingers. Love your granny squares too.
ReplyDeleteHugs
donna
Thank you Donna!! I know, I do imagine the person who typed on this!! So neat!! Have a great day! xo Heather
DeleteI love your old typewriter! My husband recently bought me an old Corona typewriter, it is smaller, I think it was intended for a lady. :) I am trying to teach myself how to crochet granny squares. The hot summer has be off course in teaching myself for a little while. Yours are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBlessings for a happy Monday!
xoxo...Gloria
Hi Gloria! Thank you! I would love to have a Corona, too!! They are all so neat. Oh, granny squares are so fun, and a little addicting!! Look forward to seeing the ones you make!! Have a blessed summery week! xo Heather
DeleteMy grandfather had this same typewriter in his clothing store. I loved typing on it. Very fun. Such fun memories.
ReplyDeleteOh, how awesome your grandfather had one in his clothing store!! What great memories Kim!! Thanks for sharing, I just love hearing them!! ;) xo Heather
DeleteLovely old typewriter, my mom found a black one that looks really similar to yours but doesn't have the glass on the sides. Have a great rest of the night! xo Holly
ReplyDeleteThanks Holly!! They are so neat to have! Does the one your mom bought work? Have a lovely day! xo Heather
DeleteThat is a really big ol' typewriter. I had to type all my high school and college papers... that was before the age of home computers, before mistakes got so easy to fix. (I used a lot of white out type products.)
ReplyDeleteIt is really big and heavy! ;) So neat that you typed you high school and college papers!! I know it probably wasn't the greatest at the time, but I just love them and typing on it!! Thanks for sharing!! xo Heather
DeleteI have a typewriter I found last winter for 6.00, not as old as yours but old. It's on a vintage typing table in our bedroom and we write one line notes to each other every so often and wait for the other person to 'find' it!
ReplyDeleteTammy
Oh, how neat is this Tammy!! I love this idea, and might have to borrow it! ;) xo Heather
DeleteI had an old typewriter for quite awhile (not as cool as yours), but ended up selling it in a garage sale. I swear, every person that walked by it stopped and typed at the keys...every person!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny...we have it in our living room and every time my husband or I walk by it, we have to type! :) xo Heather
DeleteI DO have an old typewriter but I do NOT have an awesome box of Dennison labels like that - great score!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I bought the labels on Etsy!! ;) xo Heather
DeleteOh, that is one lovely typewriter! A fabulous find.
ReplyDeleteLiz @ Shortbread & Ginger

DeleteI love the sound of typewriters don't you? I had one of those plastic toy ones in the 70s, loved typing messages to people, actually still doing that now! Ada :)

ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! The glass is my favorite feature!! Happy day to you! xo Heather
DeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteThere were a few typewriters at the Farm Chicks show and every time I passed one, there would be a child intently hammering away at the keys! It made me happy and worried at the same time. :)
Thanks Holly! Oh, how fun!! I am sure one day when I have little ones, they'll be doing the same! ;) xo Heather
DeleteThat is an awesome typewriter. very cool.

ReplyDeleteJust look at that big old beauty! She is quite the machine! I remember when I learned to type...and, that my hands would ache after just a few minutes. You have found such a marvelous treasure! It will be so much fun adding typed words to so many things....(Muslin, Paper, Labels, Photos...Oh, the possibilities are endless!).
Your granny squares are lovely...and, I agree, the one color ones do just fly by!

DeleteIt's me again...I almost forgot to share about at my nephews vintage themed wedding a few years ago. Instead of having a guest book....They had an antique typewriter (much like yours). It was such a charming touch and fun way to register our attendance.
ReplyDeleteHugs...

Thank you my dear!! Oh, what would I name her... I'll have to start typing and maybe a name will come! ;) Oh, I saw some cute pink ones on Etsy, but it is always the shipping that is so costly. Hope you find one soon!! Have a beautiful week sweet friend! xo Heather
DeleteGorgeous typewriter!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! xo Heather
DeleteOOHHHHHH! I love it!!!!!! I love the typed up label too! I sold a blue typewriter in my booth, and I've been sad ever since. I shoulda kept it!

DeleteOH MY WORD! So so awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks!! ;) xo Heather
DeleteI took typing in high school where we learned on manual typewriters. I used a Selectric out of high school to type up poems for a lady who wanted to publish a poetry book. And at one of my first jobs in a law firm, I actually had to use a typewriter to do all my court documents. That correction tape was tricky stuff to use, but thankfully I didn't make so many mistakes back then. Great idea to use those labels for fun messages. Hope you can get that typewriter good working order again. Have a fabulous day. Tammy
ReplyDeleteThanks!! Fun story!! I hope so to, or I'll just have to collect more. :) xo Heather
DeleteOh my goodness! I have almost that same typewriter! It belonged to my grandfather and he used it in his office for many years. I need to have mine restored a bit as a few little people's fingers have bent some of the keys, but it still looks beautiful. What a happy treasure!
ReplyDeleteOh, how awesome!! I love how yours belonged to your grandfather! Makes it such a special treasure! Thanks for sharing!! xo Heather
DeleteWhat else is there to say but that typewriter is AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWESOME!!!!!! hugs and ENJOY!!!! : )
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea!! ;) xo Heather
DeleteI have been TRYING to get Burley to agree to let me get one of these! He thinks it's not practical. Most of my life isn't practical right?! It's GORGEOUS and I can only imagine the things you can do with it. Great find!
ReplyDeleteOh, you need to get one! They are very practical, and just neat to have! Thanks!! ;) xo Heather
DeleteOh I LOVE your "new" typewriter! I remember my mum having a beautiful old manual typewriter that she used to type all her letters on (we're talking early '70s.. way before email!!) Just back from my holiday and catching up on my reading list so apologies for being a few days behind the times!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy day,
xoxo
That is a treasure! Way to go, girl!!
