the country mouse and the city mouse

This is a Little Golden Book published in 1961 with three Aesop Fables told by Patricia Scarry, and illustrated by Richard Scarry.

I thought the first fable was such a sweet little story about the country life verses the city! And since I just talked about wanting a farm, it was perfect!!

The story begins with the city mouse, Melissa, visiting her dear friend Annie in the country.  Love Annie's adorable house and patriotic mailbox, and Melissa's classic car!

Their outfits are darling!! Melissa tells Annie that life in the city is more exciting than the dull country!!

Annie goes with Melissa to the city, and what surprises she finds!! Look out for that dog!! ;)

They go exploring in Melissa's house, and what treasures they find!! Look at that sweet kitty peeking at them!!

They run from the kitty, and start to dance to some music, when all of a sudden the vacuum cleaner comes after them!! I love how the vacuum has a face!!

Annie, knew the city life wasn't for her! She ran all the way back home to the peaceful country!!

I love what she says at the end, "I would rather lead a simple life than dine on riches, and live in fear." Oh, sweet Annie Mouse, I know what you mean!!

  10. OH-I love this book, Heather. I am always in a quandry as to city vs. country. I still miss our little farm every day, and don't completely love city life-BUT-country life was a bit too alienated where we were.....oof-if only I could find the perfect compromise. Want to share a country house?? hee hee.

    Happy Easter Heather.

    1. Oh, I am so glad you enjoyed the sweet story!! I have never lived in the country, so I am so eager to get out of the city, which will hopefully be soon! How fun it would be to share a country house, you just have to promise to make me your delicious pies everyday!! Just kidding! ;) xo Heather

  13. I remember this book so vividly..although I always waffled between the city mouse and the country mouse. Being the suburban mouse now I know the country mouse is most certainly the life for me...Happiest of Easters...smiles...Renee
