a minty sweet hanger

A very happy day to you!!
Hope that you are having a lovely start to the week and are enjoying some wonderful weather!
Over the weekend I worked on a custom order for some strawberry crocheted hangers for a sweet customer. So, being in the hanger mood, I knew it was time to attempt making one with crochet thread similar to the pretty vintage hangers that I found recently at an estate sale. And, I was surprised that it only took a little longer to make then the cotton yarn ones! Yay!
I crocheted it using a mint variegated thread, which I was excited about until I finished and really didn't like the way the colors were spread out. I was hoping for them to be vertical, but because I made a long chain instead of a short one, it made them horizontal. I tried doing it the shorter chain way, but then all the green ended up on one side and the whites on the other, so I gave up, for now!
I am thinking that the older variegated thread had shorter lengths of the colors, so it looked more blended? It is still a mystery for now and sorry if I have thoroughly confused you with all this! ;)
I added some pretty crocheted flowers and just love the sweet touch it gives the hanger. So, it was a good test run and I already have my next one planned, but this one will be a solid color! ;)
Another row of sixteen-patch quilts blocks are finished! Oh, I can't wait for this colorful quilt top to be done!! It just might be one of my favorites so far! What crafty or sewing goodness are you working on this week?

Wishing you all a lovely and crafty week!!

  3. Hi Heather...it is quite annoying when variegated yarn turns out too even coloured..I think the older ones used to have variations in the lengths of different colour, so made them more interesting. What do you think?

I still use and cherish one my aunt made for me many years ago - they are beautiful and useful :) I have been feverishly trying to finish up my small hexie quilt top so I can move on to other projects guilt-free ;P

  14. Oh, I love the way the hanger came out, especially with the little flowers. I think the varigated thread looks fine but if you want the colors more mixed I would try using a double strand and start at two different colors in the varigation so they are more mixed. Might work.

Your 16 patch block quilt is so cute! I can see why it will be a favorite! What a nice mix of prints...

  23. I love the hanger and the patchwork blocks! I think I may start a 16 patch as well. Not that I have any business doing so because I just pulled out my HUGE WIPs pile and it's scary. Plus I signed up for a Halloween block of the week project with the local quilt shop that runs for 7 weeks. Eeep! I do love Halloween. xo Laura

  24. I love variegated threads, too. I just think the manufacturers have varying degrees of color variation. It happens in cross stitch, too. Some are better than others. I still think it's lovely.

  27. Your patchwork blocks look beautiful!! You are using the prettiest fabrics! I know what you mean about color from the variegated yarns looking too stretched out. I stopped using them because of that.

  29. Hello sweet Heather, I love your hanger, it turned out so well. Personally I would have also thought that crochet thread would take a great deal longer to work. I personally love the blended colour look and to be honest its a bit trendy right now with the dip dyed look, so I am sure there will be many people interested to buy it. I love your 16 block squares. I am still working on mine, well I have finished 20 16 blocks, but now I am facing a dilemma with the rest. Hopefully I will get some time after the school holidays to take it to the next level. Hope you enjoy your week lovely Heather. Much love xoxo

  33. OH MY GOODNESS Heather!! Such beautiful colors and pictures! I love the hanger and would happily purchase it from you if you are ready to part with it. Could you tell me how big the squares are in one 16 patch? I've been thinking of making one but am not sure what size to cut.

  34. What a pretty hanger, we used to have those in the 70's so they were the ugly avacado green, orange, gold, etc. Yours is so much prettier. I have started a patchwork duvet for my new bedroom design, but I doubt I'll finish it this year with all my mom's doctor appointments. I'd like to have it done for the holiday event in November........we'll see. It's all vintage fabric and vintage feed sacks.......really cute.

    Hugs,
    Meri

  35. Well someone sure is lucky! It would be so wonderful to have a closet full of your beautiful hangers:)

  36. I love the hanger. I have some vintage crochet hangers but my great grandmother used wire hangers not the beautiful wooden ones. She did use the variegated yarn, but it was similar to the Lion brand polyester yarn, not the cotton thread, so it is a bit chunky but I love them anyway. Your quilt is going to be beautiful! I just love the colors. I just finished piecing a quilt for my 1 yr old niece and tomorrow I will layer it and then quilt it with the sewing machine. I recycled some orphan feedsack quilt blocks that a wonderful friend gave me. I really enjoyed recycling the blocks and being able to use them in a quilt. I can't wait to see your finished quilt! It is going to be amazing. Have a wonderful night, Holly
