vintage red apples

Oh, how I am so ready for summer to be over, and the crisp fall to be here! How about you? I stopped off at a little thrift store and found this beautiful vintage red apple bread box.
It was hiding underneath a shelf, just waiting for me to bring it home! The patina is just gorgeous! I just love rusty goodness!
This is my first bread box, and I know it won't be my last. I am not sure of the era, but I would assume from 30's-50's. What do you think?
Awhile back I bought this pretty vintage apple flour sifter. The apples on this are so bright, and it is in such great condition.
I have always wanted to use one of these to make a pie or some sweet treat. Maybe one day I will find one with less rust inside! They sure don't make sifters like this anymore! Do you have any neat vintage sifters?
Wishing you all a lovely and cheery day!
I am linking up with sweet Sue at It's a Very Cherry World for Rednesday!! Head on over to check out some more lovely reds!!

  2. LOL! I love the sifter...when I was just getting engaged I bought one of those new at the supermarket...back then you would never ever think of making a cake or cookies without sifting the flour. But now I just dump the flour in...and all's good! I once had my kitchen done in vintage apples and found a set of cannisters and a garbage can in unused condition on Ebay...I couldn't believe it! =D Have fun with that bread box...will it go in your craft space?

    1. That's funny! I was thinking if anyone really sifted anymore. ;) Oh, how beautiful, I have been keeping my eye our for some canister, and a dust pan with the apples. I am heading to the flea market on Sunday, so we shall see! I have the bread box sitting on top of my small hutch in my dining room. Have a great day! xo Heather

  8. That breadbox was quite a find! I would guess that it is from the 40's (and that is just a guess). I have a few vintage sifters but nothing with color like your pristine apple one. Too bad it has the rust, frankly, I have never seen an old one without rust. xo

  10. Heather your bread box is adorable as is the sifter. I think it is probably late 40's early 50's in age. Great find.

  18. So cute and totally 40's-50's. I have a box like this, but with yellow flowers, and I use it as a stationary caddy. For the rust, try taking some Krylon matte clear finish and spray it where the rust is. May take a couple of coats, but then the rust won't come off on things you put inside. Great finds!!!!!!!! I use an old sifter once in awhile that was my grandmothers.
