rip van winkle

This Friday's book is a classic Rip Van Winkle adapted from Washington Irving's Legend by Dorothy Bell Briggs and illustrated by Anne Sellers Leaf, and published in 1962.
I adore all the sweet faces, especially the little girl and boy!
What a friend indeed Rip was!! But, his wife wasn't too happy about him not tending to their houses needs! So, he went off into the woods to walk his anger off. Isn't the little girls outfit so cute!
Lovin' the long beard on the fellow carry the keg with apple juice, right? This is a children's book. ;)
Bowling in the forest sounds fun!! Love the little yellow bird, and all the colorful socks!
Strike!! Look at the fellow doing his cute dance!
Rip fell asleep, and when he awoke up he wondered what he would tell his wife for being away all night! Oh, my!
Rip had slept for twenty tears, and had no idea! Imagine that! I see a sweet bunny hiding behind a tree!
Rip couldn't find his dog, so he headed for town, and he was quite the sight!
Rip asked around, "Does nobody know Rip Van Winkle?", but no one knew who he was until a sweet old lady came to his side.
So, Rip told his story, and whenever the thunder rolls, the sweet children would say, "that the little men are up in the mountains bowling."

Love this precious illustration, and her cute dress! Such a sweet version of this classic! Hope you have a wonderful Friday, and Memorial Day weekend!!

a present for the princess

This Friday's book is A Present for the Princess written by Janie Lowe Paschall and illustrated by Elizabeth Webbe, and published in 1959.
This is such a sweet book, and I adore all the precious, soft images!
Who wouldn't want to be born in a pretty white castle with animals as your friends!!
Such a sweet little princess, with those adorable blue birds!!
Is this boy not adorable!! Lovin' his cute outfit, too!! He didn't live far from the castle, and was blind, "But he could feel in his heart the whole world around him." I just love that!!
He heard the princess was coming, and wanted to give her a present.
The little boy goes through his garden to see what to give her, and decides a strawberry!! That is my favorite part!! Oh, how I love strawberries!
Beautiful image!! This would be great framed!!
The little boy asked for help so his strawberry would grow.
And it did!
When the day came for the princess to visit, he went to check on the strawberry. It was ready to be picked!
Love this image of the two! The little boys strawberry "It was the best strawberry in the whole, wide, wonderful world."
The Princess loved the strawberry, and thought it was the nicest present she ever had. She ate the strawberry, and kissed the little boy to thank him!! How sweet!! I love the last page. What do you think is it the blush or the strawberry juice making this precious boys cheeks red?
Look at his face!! Couldn't you just squeeze those cheeks!! Such a cute book!! Have a wonderful Friday, and a Happy Mother's Day!!

huge harold

This Friday's book is Huge Harold written and illustrated by Bill Peet, and published in 1961. This is another favorite of mine from Bill Peet. I just adore Harold and his sweet face and large thumpers!!
There are a lot pages in this book, so I am going to show you some of my favorite illustrations and pages! It will just make you have to find a copy to read it all! ;)
Look at Harold in the middle!! Those feet are so cute!! Poor little Harold's feet just kept growing, and his parents were afraid he was going to grow to "such great height."

They were right!! So, they told Harold he had to go find a place to live in the deep woods, because he was too big to live with them. So sad..

Off he hops through to the forest. "I must say," said Harold, "it doesn't look cheery. It looks very spooky and creepy and eery. I suppose," he continued, "there's nothing to fear, For it doesn't seem likely there's anyone here." I just love the rhyming pattern!!
So, he continues on his way to find the perfect place to live. He comes to a farm, and rests on a pile of hay. But, the cows and the pig did not want him there. "So he left the cow pasture and went on his way."
Poor sweet Huge Harold is so sad and cold, for he has not found a place where he will fit in to live.
A storm comes, so Harold runs to find shelter in the old mansion. I think it is a pretty neat house!
Great illustration!! Look at those feet!
Poor Harold ran into some boys in the old mansion, so they got the fellow men to hunt him down. Love his face! So innocent! ;)
He runs, and runs from all the burly men, until he sees a large friendly barn, with some fluffy hay! "This is the end, I'm through running away."
As he was sleeping the farmer, Orville B. Croft heard a loud snoring. "Well now," he said, "doggone and dagnabit! That's what I call a whopping' big rabbit!"
Orville B. Croft was very gentle and kind, and let Harold stay with horse to munch on some hay. But, poor Harold thought he was just being nice so he could fatten him up for supper.
Boy, was Huge Harold wrong!! Now, who wouldn't want a large rabbit pulling your carriage!! Love it!
At the races they couldn't find a rule against rabbits running the race, so Harold ran, and...
He won the race!! Huge Harold was so happy and the crowd just loved him! "But all this success didn't go to his head, He remained very modest and humble instead. For rabbits you see aren't affected by fame, No matter what happens they're always the same."

Such a cute book!! Hope you enjoyed!! Have a most lovely Friday!! Join me for this Friday's Lil'Vintage Story Books with the most lovely Corey.

mr. bear's house

Today's book is the sweet, Mr. Bear's House by Fenella Rothe, illustrated by Clare McKinley, and published in 1953. I just adore the precious illustrations of all the cute forest animals!!

This is a story about a fat brown bear, Mr. Bear, who wants his own house, after watching a carpenter work away on a new home!

Mr. Bear decides to start collecting materials, to build his own house. I love his precious face!!

Here come all his sweet forest friends!!

All of his forest friends were concerned about the noise he was making. So, they start to give him ideas of how they build their homes.

The beavers suggested putting mud in the cracks of his new walls, so the wind wouldn't blow them down. So kind! ;)

Are these not the sweetest rabbits you have ever laid your eyes on!!

I had to enlarge it for you, because they are just so precious with their rosy cheeks, and long eyelashes!! What a cute decal this would be!!

The pretty birds come over to help him put a roof on his house!

This is a fun illustration of the birds dropping the hay for Mr. Bear's new roof! I just love the little blue birds!!

Mr. Bear is so happy that his house really looked like a house!! The sweet rabbit told him that the rain could come in the windows, so he decides to ask the carpenter what he should do!

Who has never met a sweet talking bear before.. silly carpenter! ;)

The carpenter begins to tell Mr. Bear how to make a window.  The carpenter is amazed that Mr. Bear has his own home, and says he will help out the windows in!! Yay, for Mr. Bear!

They take a sweet stroll through the forest to Mr. Bear's house. He is shocked, "Unbelievable!" he exclaimed. "Why, if I hadn't seen it myself, I would never have believed it."

The carpenter agreed to do the windows for Mr. Bear, and was there the next morning to put them in! What a friendly and generous carpenter!

Mr. Bear was almost finished with his new home. He needed to build some chairs and a table to make it complete. After it was all done, Mr. Bear threw a big party to celebrate!! "Ah, happy day!" sighed Mr. Bear."

Such a cute and happy story!! Hope you have a lovely Friday night and weekend!!
