autumn is here

Happy Autumn!
So happy that fall is here! Our weather is still a little warm, but hopefully soon those crisp, cool days will be here! I have been super busy with getting my fall items for the shoppe made and ready for my reopening in early October.

I celebrated my "32" birthday a couple weeks ago and spent a nice quite day just relaxing. My mom sent me a birthday box full of family treasures. These sweet Pyrex bowls were a wedding gift when my parents got married. So, I am excited to have them now and they are perfect for fall!

I went to a antique shop and treated myself to these sweet peach vintage canisters. I'll have to keep my eye out for the other sizes to complete the set!

 I finished my mini apple wall quilt! I hand quilted it, so it took a little longer, but love how it turned out!

 And, to finish it off I used a sweet apple print for the binding. I am thinking of starting a little mini quilt for each season, so maple leaves are up next!

patchwork apples and pretty pinwheels

   Hello!

Hope you had a lovely weekend! I am eager for autumn and those cooler weather days. So, to get a little in the mood, I couldn't resist making some sweet patchwork apples from the lovely Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet's book, Quilty Fun!

 They were so fun to make and I can't wait to make some more, maybe into pot holders!

 And, this sweet mini apple quilt is what I made! It is completely inspired by the darling mini apple quilt that Jessie of Messy Jesse made that I just loved! So, now it is the perfect little quilt to practice my hand quilting on!

I made a few more pinwheels to add to my quilt! I am more of a simple quilter, and these are always my favorite to make!

 The hardest part is always deciding the fabrics! ;)

 And, now my Sew Sweet Bee pinwheel quilt top is finished!

 I just love how this quilt turned out and all the pretty blocks and colors! Thank you to all the Sweet Bee's who contributed to it!! Soon it will be off to be quilted by the sweetest Donna, which I can't wait!! Her quilting is always so beautiful!

And, these pretties arrived in the mail from Donna last week! She sweetly asked me if I would like to do a Blogger's Choice for her fabric shoppe, which I was so excited to do with these new Lecien Flower Sugar collection! The colors are so gorgeous! You can find this sweet Vintage Grey fat quarter bundle over at Donna's shoppe!

maple leaves

Happy Sweet Day!

Hope that you are having a wonderful week so far and are enjoying the last of these summery days! Thank you for all your sweet comments on my hexie flower! 

Well, the vintage maple leaf quilt is finished, and I am so happy with how it turned out! It is a smaller quilt, but perfect for hanging or to throw on the couch for a little fall touch. I had originally planned to hand quilt, but decided on machine quilting diagonal lines to keep it simple, and to save all my hand quilting energy for my Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt. :)  

 For the back I used two vintage peachy-orange calico prints, which I love how pretty those colors are together with the dark binding.

 Since these blocks were vintage and different sizes, I did my best not to cut off the tips of the leaves, which did happen on some, but that's okay it makes it more vintagey! ;) 

 And, for the binding I had this acorn polka dot reproduction print that I have been wanting to use since last fall, so it was the perfect touch for the quilt! 

A sweet quilt ready to bring some fall into my home and maybe keep my legs cozy on those cool fall nights!

I was in the maple leaf mood, so I decided to start my fall decorating with these pretty floral maple leaf coasters. 

 I choose some fall-ish floral prints and used a cream felt for the backing. 

 I used some wool crewel yarn that I recently bought and did a blanket stitch around the edging to help make the leaves pop a little, and I just love how sweet they look with the stitching.

 I was even thinking these would be cute to just decorate as doilies or in a fall wreath. I'm excited that I have two fall projects marked off the list!

a vintage recipe monday

A very happy new week to you! 

The vintage recipe for today is a sweet Old Fashioned Bread Pudding. I never used to like bread pudding because in my early years I was a waitress at a chicken pot pie restaurant, and one of the desserts we served was bread pudding. I served so much of it, that I grew to not like it, along with chicken pot pies. ;) 

Well, my feelings towards bread pudding have changed, and when it is made right, warm out of the oven, it can be quite tasty! So, anyways hope you like this old fashioned one (there is a little typo in the recipe, I think it is supposed to be 1/2 c of raisins, and I would add a teaspoon of both vanilla and cinnamon), and let me know what you think if you give it a try!  And, just a side note, I still can't eat chicken pot pies! ;)

I had quite a productive weekend with getting some projects completed. I made a fall table runner out of a vintage tablecloth scrap left over from making tea towels. I added some pretty vintage doilies and...

 you guessed it, a pretty almond scalloped edging. I only wish I had the time and patience to do an edging all around. I don't know how those sweet ladies once did it. ;)   

For over a year I have wanted to make a new ironing board cover, since the one I had was getting old, and I didn't want to buy one. So, I finally did it this weekend. It was easy to make and turned out so pretty.

 I followed this lovely tutorial by Aneela Hoey. I used the sweet vintage fabric I bought last week at a thrift store, and added some cotton batting underneath. I'm definitely going to enjoy ironing more!!

 I always crochet in the evenings to relax, so this weekend my goal was to make some Christmas crocheted flowers that will be part of my holiday packaging, and maybe to decorate with, too. ;)

A new stripey crocheted blanket is in progress. This one will be for my husband in his two favorite colors, grey and black. I am hoping to have it finished by Christmas, so will see. 

 Last week I received some pretty mail from the sweetest and talented Trish of Notes of Sincerity. 

 Inside the pretty package were vintage Sunbonnet Sue quilt blocks!! A sweet lady completed all these  and I feel so honored to have them!

 They are all so beautiful, and I just love the different colors. There are 4 of each color, and I am so excited to make these pretties into a quilt. 

Thank you so very much Trish for such a special and generous gift!! They will be ever so treasured in my home! Make sure you take a sweet visit to her beautiful blog!

vintage maple leaf quilt

Happy Friday! 

Awhile back at an estate sale I bought these sweet vintage maple leaf blocks. They were all delicately hand sewn together with the prettiest calicos.

 There was an uneven number, so I wasn't quite sure what I would make with them, because I wanted to use them all. So, they have been sitting patiently waiting for me to sew them into something pretty.

 The other day I was over at Amy's blog, Diary of a Quilter, and she was showing this cute patchwork book, and...

this maple leaf quilt. I knew I had to get the book, and that this was the perfect project for these vintage maple leaf blocks! 

So, I just finished the quilt top! It was hard to get everything even because the blocks were not all the same size, but it came together. It is on the smaller size, because I didn't want to add anymore blocks, just the cream ones. It will look great as a wall quilt or just a throw for the couch. What do you think? 

It is definitely on the softer side of colors, but I love the primitive feel of it. I have a darker 30's reproduction fabric for the binding to help bring out the colors. 

So, here is where I need some help. The quilting! I want to hand quilt, but I am not sure what I should do. I want to do a design in the blank squares, and then I am not really sure how to go about the leaves. Any suggestions? 

 I am looking forward to getting it quilted and hung up!
