mr. bear's house

Today's book is the sweet, Mr. Bear's House by Fenella Rothe, illustrated by Clare McKinley, and published in 1953. I just adore the precious illustrations of all the cute forest animals!!

This is a story about a fat brown bear, Mr. Bear, who wants his own house, after watching a carpenter work away on a new home! 

Mr. Bear decides to start collecting materials, to build his own house. I love his precious face!!

Here come all his sweet forest friends!! 

All of his forest friends were concerned about the noise he was making. So, they start to give him ideas of how they build their homes.

 The beavers suggested putting mud in the cracks of his new walls, so the wind wouldn't blow them down. So kind! ;)

Are these not the sweetest rabbits you have ever laid your eyes on!! 

I had to enlarge it for you, because they are just so precious with their rosy cheeks, and long eyelashes!! What a cute decal this would be!! 

The pretty birds come over to help him put a roof on his house! 

This is a fun illustration of the birds dropping the hay for Mr. Bear's new roof! I just love the little blue birds!!

Mr. Bear is so happy that his house really looked like a house!! The sweet rabbit told him that the rain could come in the windows, so he decides to ask the carpenter what he should do! 

Who has never met a sweet talking bear before.. silly carpenter! ;)

 The carpenter begins to tell Mr. Bear how to make a window.  The carpenter is amazed that Mr. Bear has his own home, and says he will help out the windows in!! Yay, for Mr. Bear!

 They take a sweet stroll through the forest to Mr. Bear's house. He is shocked, "Unbelievable!" he exclaimed. "Why, if I hadn't seen it myself, I would never have believed it." 

The carpenter agreed to do the windows for Mr. Bear, and was there the next morning to put them in! What a friendly and generous carpenter! 

Mr. Bear was almost finished with his new home. He needed to build some chairs and a table to make it complete. After it was all done, Mr. Bear threw a big party to celebrate!! "Ah, happy day!" sighed Mr. Bear."

Thank you, thank you... for all of your sweet and encouraging comments yesterday!! It means so much to me!! The Lord has truly blessed me with all of you lovelies!!  It was such an amazing day, and I am beyond thrilled to have my shoppe open! It is so fun!

When vintage treasure hunting, I always keep my eye out for these beauties! I have such a special place in my heart for adorable vintage oil lamps!! There is just something about them, that just makes my heart happy! 

This is one of my favorites that I bought at an estate sale! I love the milk glass bottom, and the pretty amber glass, with the scalloped edge on the top. It reminds me of a flower blooming!! And, since I don't have a beautiful garden of flowers to show you...this will be my spring blossom!! ;)

grand opening and giveaway!! CLOSED

Today is my grand opening for my Etsy shoppe, vintage grey handmade!! I am so excited to begin this new creative venture!! 

My shoppe will be specializing in vintagey tea towels, tote bags, and more! I am starting off small, and will be adding more tea towels, bags, and some other fun items next week! I will also post all my new items on my blog before they go into the shoppe!

strawberries and grannies

It has been such a busy, but beautiful sunny day today!! I bought these beautiful vintage strawberry tea towels on Etsy last week!! I just fell in love with the colors, and sweet design with the adorable butterflies!. They are designed by Luther Travis. I have never heard of him, until I bought these beauties! I can't wait to crochet an edging on them!! Perfect for the summertime! 

On Sunday, I finally was able to make my first granny square quilt block! It is not too bad for my first one! The pattern is really simple, and so fun to sew together! I just love how they look!! I am going to try to do one every Sunday! My goal will be 20 blocks! 

I also had a chance to crochet two more granny squares for my blanket I started awhile back. Remember these..

Along with my granny square blocks, I am going to make a pair of these grannies each Sunday, too!! It will be a 'Granny Sunday'! ;)  I am looking forward to getting the quilt and blanket finished by summer! We'll see!!

A vintage grey update!

My little Etsy shoppe will be opening this Wednesday, April 18th!! I am working like a busy bee trying to get all the last details finished!! Thanks for all of your support in my new crafty venture!!

the goat that went to school

This Friday's book is, "The GOAT that went to School". It is written by Sally R. Francis, illustrated by Jean Tamburine, and published in 1952. I just fell in love with this book when I saw this sweet goat!! Isn't he the cutest!! 

The graphics are beautiful and so sweet!!

The story starts with a sweet little goat named Bucky, playing by himself, because all the other goats are too old to play. 

Bucky gets lonesome, and decides to go down a narrow path in the woods that was overgrown. I love this line, "But Bucky was plucky-he kept right on."

He meets up with what seems like a sweet dog, but the dog was not very nice to Bucky. The dog bites him on the leg, "But Bucky was plucky-he kept right on." 

Bucky continues on, and comes across a farm on fire. He gets too, close and a spark burns his back. "It hurt, too. But Bucky was plucky-he kept right on." 

So, sweet Bucky continues on his journey, and comes to a gate with children playing! All the children scream "A goat, a goat!" and ask they janitor, Mr. Sullivan, to let him in to play! Bucky was so excited, he got a little rough, and knocked the children down. 

Mr. Sullivan, told him to take it easy, and said, "Your name must be Bucky." The teacher came out and wanted to get rid of Bucky, but the children wanted him to stay and play! 

Mr. Sullivan knew that Bucky could learn how to play, so the three of them went inside the school, and when they came out, there stood Bucky, "But what a changed little goat he was! Meek as a lamb now and clean as a whistle."

Bucky played and did everything the children were doing! I love him coming down on the slide!! The children have the sweetest faces, too!!

It was time for the children to go home, and they all waved good-bye! Bucky was hungry so he started to chew on some grass, and chewed all the weeds by the fence. Mr. Sullivan said, "Why, Bucky, you are as a good as a lawn mower!" Look at his sweet face eating the grass!!

Bucky was tired, so he came inside where Mr. Sullivan was, and plops down on the floor. Sweet Bucky was so happy with his new life. He has a warm place to sleep, friends to play with, and good grass to eat. This is what he has always wanted!! 

"It wasn't long until his big eyes began to wink and blink. His chin whiskers didn't move. The little goat was asleep. Lucky little Bucky!" What a sweet little story!!

roses...

Well...I bought some more vintage Meyercord roses decals! Can you believe it! I know, but I can't resist these beauties!!

I had this perfect shabby white bench that was in desperate need of prettiness! I chose the red roses with the sweet yellow butterflies; perfect for spring! 

If you have never used decals before, they are so great! You cut them up, soak in warm water for a little bit, then peel carefully, and place on your most lovely piece you're adorning. 

Well, that sounds easy...but this decal was not cooperating with me! It kept ripping and separating!! You can tell in the first picture my best attempt to put it together. I guess it gives it a more vintage and shabby look, which I love!

Here are some of my enamelware that I used those smaller rose decals on, that I bought awhile back! They just make my crocheted dish towels, look so much prettier in their holder! 

I just love how the roses made these cute enameled pots, pop with color on my kitchen wall!! Do you have any decals that you just love?
