a colorful gift

A pretty little package arrived yesterday from the most lovely and talented Trish, of Notes of Sincerity, and I just had to share it with you! How sweet is the orange gingham ribbon and spring green wrapping! And you know that when something says "happy stitching" pure goodness is going to be inside! 

Look at all the yummy and colorful floss! And how adorable is that card with blue bird and strawberries! :) If you cross stitch or embroider, you know how happy this pretty assortment makes you!! Thank you sweet Trish for a most wonderful and generous gift!! What a way to spend a cozy weekend! I am off to go learn how to cross stitch, my newest venture!

vintage kiddie quilt

Remember the sweet vintage animal embroidery blocks from earlier this week? Well, I have been working hard and I just finished the quilt blocks for the kiddie quilt I am making! What do you think? 

I love how all the prints make the sweet animals stand out! 

The little bear and kitten, still need the french knots to be finished. I think they are my least favorite thing to do when it comes to embroidery. I have the hardest time getting the knot to stay. Would love any advice on the best way you learned how to make french knots? 

 Most of the fabrics are 30's reproduction by Moda. I squeezed in the sweet strawberry fabric that arrived last week! I couldn't resist! It just seemed to go so perfect with the turtle! 

The little mouse hanging from the leaves has a sweet kitten reproduction print, that I just love! Sorry it's kinda blurry. Taking pictures at night isn't always the best! :)

Now, my last step is putting all these quilt blocks together! I am deciding if I should put strips of white muslin between each block, or just sew all the blocks together, like in the first picture. What do you think?

vintage fabric love

So, the dear sweet mailman brought me some lovely packages yesterday! Oh, those are one of my most favorite days, especially when I open it to yummy vintage fabric!

 Now, this most lovely vintage rose fabric I have been looking at over on Etsy for about a week. I finally broke down and bought it! I just had to get it for my fabric stash. I have never seen such a beautiful rose print!

 It is even better in person! The fabric is a soft cotton, and there is almost 3 yards of it! Sorry for the crease, but I was so excited about it, that I just took it out of the package and started taking pictures! :)

Here is a close up! What do you think? Cabbage roses in pink and red, with black outlining, and a touch a green! You can't go wrong! I am working on some projects for my little Etsy store, vintage grey, that will be opening for the first time next month, and this pretty fabric will be showing off in many of my handmade treasures! So, stay tuned for the opening day! :)

This pretty pink feedsack fabric I just thought was so sweet. This is my first feedsack fabric, and it definitely will not be my last! :) The embroidered doily was a free gift with my purchase of the rose fabric. Yay, for free vintage goodness!

Here is a close up of the feedsack. I love the floral design with the tiny stripes! It is a pretty pink, too! 

Such beautiful floral embroidery, and the shape is fun! I have always wanted to make these lovely embroidered doilies or runners! They are just so sweet and add such a special touch to a table or dresser. 

Okay, now this beautiful vintage fabric I purchased a couple of weeks ago on Etsy (I believe she still has more!!). Sorry, for not showing it to you earlier! I just feel in love with the design and colors! It is an upholstery cotton fabric from the 50's. This is a must have for your vintage fabric stash! 

It is stunning in person! I love the large roses, the blue birds, and butterflies! The perfect spring fabric! I am not sure what my plans are for it, but I am sure it will become something most lovely! I might even use it in some of my handmade treasures for my shop. :)

sweet, sweet embroidery

Awhile back at an estate sale I bought a box of vintage linens, with sweet treasures that were waiting so patiently to be loved once again. This box had my name written all over it! :) I thought you would enjoy seeing some of these most lovely treasures! 

I just adore vintage embroidery, and this sweet tea towel makes me smile every time I look at it. I have it hanging in my craft room for daily inspiration! 

Love the spring colors, and precious details, especially the twist in the little towels or blankets. 

 These are some adorable embroidered Vogart kiddie quilt blocks.

 This little animal hanging is so cute, but I am not sure what it is. What do you think?

Sweet bunny for Easter!

I have tried searching for more of these kiddie quilt blocks, but so far I have had no luck. I am sure they will pop up again at another estate sale!

I wish I could have met the wonderful lady whose hands did all this beautiful embroidery work! 

  I am planning making small patchwork quilt, using some children's 30's reproduction fabric. I need to finish the embroidery on a few of them, and then I will start piecing the quilt. I will keep you posted on my progress. :)

The last three quilt blocks are a little different from the other ones, but are so sweet, and unfinished. Yay, another project! I am looking forward to completing them, but I need to find some instructions on how to do it. I am thinking I can just start embroidering, but not sure! Let me know if you have ever embroidered one of these vintage blocks. :)

Of course, I have to end with some pretty hankies, and a cross-stitch towel I bought at a new little antique shop over the weekend. I can never say no to hankies. They get me every time! :)

interview with serena from the farm chicks

Well, I have the most exciting post for you today! The most lovely and inspiring Serena Thompson, from The Farm Chicks, is launching her newest venture called My Favorite Find this Monday, March 19th!

 I have had the most wonderful pleasure to interview Serena about this amazing new resource for vintage lovers and hunters all over the world! Shall we get started! 

Heather:  Please share what My Favorite Find is?  

 Serena:  My Favorite Find is like a virtual show-and-tell.  You can search for, share, and find great shoppes and events like antiques shows, yard sales, auctions, and more in your area and then show-and-tell your finds.

Heather:  Describe your inspiration behind My Favorite Find?  

Serena:  I was receiving a lot of mail from readers, asking where they could find great events or shoppes in their corners of the world.  After trying to find a resource for them, I realized nothing like it existed, so I knew I needed to create it myself.  And I did!

Heather:  How can one get involved? 

Serena:  That's the best part.  Anyone can participate, anywhere in the world.  Or say you're heading somewhere new and want to know about great shoppes in that area or events that may be going on.  And then, you want to make an itinerary, complete with directions to each of the stops.  You can do it all on My Favorite Find.

 

Heather:  What are you most excited about in launching My Favorite Find?  

Serena:  I love that it will be an amazing resource for small businesses, as well as anyone having a backyard sale or great event.  It really opens the world up to the users.
