a present for the princess

This Friday's book is A Present for the Princess written by Janie Lowe Paschall and illustrated by Elizabeth Webbe, and published in 1959.
This is such a sweet book, and I adore all the precious, soft images!
Who wouldn't want to be born in a pretty white castle with animals as your friends!!
Such a sweet little princess, with those adorable blue birds!!
Is this boy not adorable!! Lovin' his cute outfit, too!! He didn't live far from the castle, and was blind, "But he could feel in his heart the whole world around him." I just love that!!
He heard the princess was coming, and wanted to give her a present.
The little boy goes through his garden to see what to give her, and decides a strawberry!! That is my favorite part!! Oh, how I love strawberries!
Beautiful image!! This would be great framed!!
The little boy asked for help so his strawberry would grow.
And it did!
When the day came for the princess to visit, he went to check on the strawberry. It was ready to be picked!
Love this image of the two! The little boys strawberry "It was the best strawberry in the whole, wide, wonderful world."
The Princess loved the strawberry, and thought it was the nicest present she ever had. She ate the strawberry, and kissed the little boy to thank him!! How sweet!! I love the last page. What do you think is it the blush or the strawberry juice making this precious boys cheeks red?
Look at his face!! Couldn't you just squeeze those cheeks!! Such a cute book!! Have a wonderful Friday, and a Happy Mother's Day!!

  4. How funny! I have this same book, and a couple years ago, I framed two of the images for my niece. She looks just like the little princess- long blond hair- and loves fawns and princesses and pink. So I framed the picture with the fawn and the one with the bluebirds for her! It's such a sweet book!

  21. Oh - thank you so much for posting this book page by page - it was my favorite book as child. It taught that we all can give back in some way and because of this book, my grandpa and I stared growing strawberries every year on their farm. I would love to find a copy once again. You have made me so happy - I'm literally in tears from all the lovely memories. Peace and joy... Diana

  22. The book A Present for the Princess was, I discovered this summer, based on a visit in 1950 by Princess Margaret to a school for blind children in East Grinstead, one of whose students, six-year-old Roger Williams, raised for her visit a lovely strawberry in his scarecrow-protected garden patch. For a newsreel of the episode, Google "the princess they could not see". For photos and the news story, Google "Princess Margaret" with "Roger Williams.

  23. This was my favorite story as a child. I called it the little blind boy story. It was in an oversized book with other stories as well. I would love to find that book and have it for my someday grandchildren.
