three jolly friends

A very happy day to you!
I hope that wherever you are you are staying warm and cozy! It has been pretty chilly for sunny CA, but I really love the cold weather during Christmas time. The lowest at night has been high 30's and during the day upper 40's. I love it! Thank you all for your sweet comments on my Christmas hanger!
Well, it has been a lucky week in finding some jolly old friends! A couple of weeks ago while out hunting for Christmas treasures, I saw a sweet vintage Santa toy behind the counter ready to be taken home, but for some reason I just wasn't sure if I was scared of him or not. So, I passed him up but just couldn't stop thinking about him.
This week I ended up going back to the store and found three of these jolly Santa dolls, but again just wasn't sure even after seeing them a second time, so of course I left them behind. I came home last night and thought how ridiculous I was to not take them, because I always regret and kick myself for not getting something down the road. So, I headed out early this morning arriving at the store to still find them there! Yay!
They are vintage Rushton Company 17" Santa plush dolls. Each one so unique and truly a work of art with all the detailing in their faces! The green corduroy one is my favorite! There is just something about that emerald green that I love!
All very nice condition for their age, which I believe is 50's-60's. They all stand, but are a little wobbly.
Don't you just love that smile! As I continue to look at them in my home, they don't scare me anymore, and I have actually become a little giddy how cute they really are.
I will be keeping these two above to treasure and add to my Christmas decorations...

but will be selling this one in my shoppe for someone else to enjoy and love! You can find more details about this jolly guy here!

Well, I am putting the finishing touches on my felt stockings and will be back later in the week to show you! Hope that you are having a crafty and lovely week, and stay warm!

  12. Well, they *are* kind of scary yet very fun and familiar, too! I would have got them! I was a child in the 60's so to me- that's what the "real" Santa looked like. :)

  13. Awww! You're selling my favorite of the 3! I sooo wish I could buy him!
I've always been just like you about these exact Santa's. I couldn't decide if they were scary or not.
I've decided that they are darn cute! Especially in a group like that. I'm so glad you took them home Heather!
    Happy Holidays!

  16. Awe geez, you're making me mad at myself even more. Last year I passed on two larger Santa's that were only $35 each, and now I'm just drooling over your three. You lucked out girlfriend, they're amazing. I try to buy at least one Santa each year to add to my growing collection of vintage and weird Santa's, but $60 is too high for my blood. Someone is going to get him and be very lucky. Thanks for sharing the piccy's!

    Hugs,
    Meri

  19. Hi Heather..
Glad you went back to get them. They are charming.
The expression on their faces suggest they are thinking; "I'm checking my list... watching to see who's naughty, or nice".
I too like the green dressed Santa. It's not that often you see a Santa suit that color.

Best of luck getting your projects done.

    Smiles :)

I can see what you mean, they are kind of interesting, but the more I look at them the cuter they get! :) I'm glad you got to get them, and are keeping two! I bet they will be fun to decorate with!! :) Can't wait to see your stockings, I know they will be so sweet! xo Holly

  25. Wow third time lucky and you stroke luck getting three. I love them all and I know I definitely wouldn't be able to get rid of one. I completely know what you mean by kicking yourself for not getting something, that is usually me, but then its hard when you're counting pennies. Sending much love and hope you are enjoying your advent xoxo

  26. I'm catching up on blogs and just made it to this post. I Love all these Santa's and what a lucky find you had to find them all at once! You may know this, but since you didn't mention it, I thought I would tell you - the red Santa's were a 1950's promotion with Coca Cola and would have once had a miniature Coke bottle in their hand. The green one is a promotion with Coke, but for 7UP. Great finds!

  27. I am behind on my blog reading and just came upon this happy find! I can't believe you found three Rushton Santa's all at once - that is amazing. I wanted to mention, since you didn't you might not know, that they were a promotion for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in the 1950's. The red Santa's were for Coke and the green Santa was for 7UP. Great finds!
